WELLNESS AROUND THE IMPERIAL PALACE
Some of the wellness retreats lie right in the heart of the city. Just outside the Imperial Palace in Tokyo’s historical Marunouchi district, two award-winning hotels offer dedicated programs to improve everyday well-being in an urban environment: one with a recently awarded 5-Star Spa, the other with a curated “deep breathing” retreat to boost general immunity.

01. Palace Hotel Tokyo
In 2026, Palace Hotel Tokyo’s evian SPA Tokyo was awarded 5 stars by Forbes Travel Guide for the third consecutive year. No doubt the accolades recognize the spa’s unrivalled views from its prime location, directly overlooking the Imperial Palace moat and gardens, and even all the way to Mt. Fuji on a clear day. True to its name, the atmosphere inside evian SPA Tokyo is super fresh, like pure Alpine spring water flowing through each room and into the open sky.
All spa treatments use evian® natural mineral water from the French Alps and include a soothing hot foot bath, with a focus on mineral enrichment, body nourishment, mindful restoration, and renewed vitality. One made-to-measure facial incorporates the traditional Japanese concept of botanical energy, using products by the Japanese botanical beauty brand warew. Another body treatment based on Asian massage techniques emphasizes measured rhythm and modulation to promote blood circulation. Think deep-cleansing, detoxifying, anti-ageing, all-purifying.

The hotel’s luxurious fifth floor facilities also comprise a high-tech fitness center and a 20-meter-long indoor pool, all with wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows that encourage you to engage your body and indulge your senses. Complimentary yoga sessions in the spa’s bright morning sunlight are offered every weekend from 7am to 8am for in-house guests.

An original spa package features Aqua Move Experience, a privately guided in-water session customized to your personally desired level of fitness. Prioritize gentle resistance and stretching to promote strength and mobility, or more intense cardio for a vigorous aqua workout. Then relax in the hot tub before segueing to a personalized body treatment.
If you wish to further explore the imperial landmark through its physical topography, Palace Hotel Tokyo coaches also offer private guided jogging tours around the 5-kilometer-long perimeter of the Imperial Palace gardens and outer moat. Private cycling tours are also available for up to six hours on rental bicycles.

According to Ms. Mayako Sumiyoshi, the hotel’s Chief Concierge, “Many of our international guests enjoy going for a run around the Imperial Palace, then heading to the gym and the spa afterward.”

Initially developed in 2018 as a means to reduce stress and regulate the body’s autonomic nervous system, HOSHINOYA’s “deep-breathing” program was renewed in 2020 in response to the pandemic, aiming to help guests restore physical and mental balance while warming the body and boosting immunity during periods of self-restraint.
Recently, HOSHINOYA Tokyo was selected for the Tatler Best Awards, an annual accolade presented by Tatler, recognizing outstanding hotels and travel experiences around the world. Likewise, HOSHINOYA Tokyo’s “modern ryokan” is itself a sanctuary of serenity and traditional Japanese hospitality in the heart of Otemachi, where you can take the time to restore mind-body balance and cultivate healthy habits.
